Tomahawk missiles have a range of approximately 2,500 kilometers, making major Russian cities targets for Ukraine. Vance’s remarks appear to be consistent with the recent shift in the US administration’s approach to the conflict, transitioning from skepticism about Ukraine’s capabilities to recognizing its potential for reclaiming lost territory.
On Sunday, a significant bombardment lasted for 12 hours in Kyiv, resulting in four fatalities and over 70 injuries across Ukraine. This attack is part of a pattern, as heightened intensity and frequency of Russian aerial assaults have been observed. Ukraine is seeking additional air defense support, specifically ten Patriot surface-to-air systems, to enhance its protection against missile threats. The deputy minister acknowledged some progress in this regard but did not confirm specifics of forthcoming promised weapons.
The situation necessitates urgent measures, as intercepted Russian drone numbers have decreased due to the volume of attacks, complicating defense efforts. Ukraine’s ongoing military production has notably increased, with the nation now manufacturing nearly all of its needed FPV drones and a significant portion of other weapons. Despite these advances, reliance on allies for adequate air defense systems remains critical, as Ukraine aims to fortify its position and potentially bring Russia to negotiate terms for peace.
