Torrential weather hits Valencia region year after deadly floods

Spain’s Valencia region is experiencing severe weather conditions once again, following catastrophic floods last year that resulted in over 230 fatalities. The region is currently under a red alert as Storm Gabrielle impacts the area. Reports indicate flooding in parts of Valencia and in Zaragoza, which is located in the neighboring Aragon region.

The meteorological agency AEMET has reported that between 160 and 200 mm of rain fell in a span of six to eight hours around the Ebro delta, raising concerns about potential further damage and disruption. While no injuries have been reported so far, preventative measures have been taken in Valencia, leading to the closure of schools, libraries, and parks on Monday.

As the region braces for the ongoing effects of the storm, questions remain about the preparedness of local infrastructure and communities in light of recent weather events.
