The accident occurred on Saturday night when a car participating in the event crashed through a fence and collided with the grandstand, as confirmed by New South Wales police.
The demolition derby was part of the annual Walcha Motorcycle Rally, which is recognized as a grassroots event for motorcycle enthusiasts. According to police reports, the ages of the injured bystanders ranged from 20 to 75 years old, with a 54-year-old man identified as critically injured. An investigation into the incident has commenced.
Prior to the crash, police noted that the 27-year-old driver of the vehicle had been involved in a collision on the track. The Walcha Council expressed its shock over the incident, stating that it would collaborate with authorities to assess the conditions leading to the crash.
