The group’s leaders, Kofi Offeh, 36, and Jean Gasho, 42, have begun living in tents while conducting rituals that include receiving offerings from locals. King Offeh, who refers to himself as the “Messiah,” believes the Biblical land of Zion is in Scotland rather than the Middle East.

The couple claims to be restoring lands allegedly taken from “black Jacobites” by Queen Elizabeth I in 1596. They are attempting to establish their kingdom outside of the British legal framework. The community has expanded to include 21-year-old Kaura Taylor, who has been described as both a second wife to King Offeh and a handmaiden, though her family raised concerns after she was reported missing.

The self-proclaimed royal family has faced legal challenges, including previous charges related to child cruelty that were dropped. They also moved their encampment after a prior site was reportedly destroyed. Scottish Borders Council officials have acknowledged their presence and have previously attempted to assist them with housing options.
