Viral Video on Reuse of Train Food Containers Misleading, Says Express Food Services

Hyderabad: A video circulated on social media has raised concerns about pantry staff allegedly cleaning and reusing food containers on a train. In response, Express Food Services, which manages train catering, issued a statement clarifying that the video misrepresents the situation regarding Train No. 16601.

The company confirmed that a vendor had collected and cleaned unsold food packets and other items with the intent to sell them as scrap, without the knowledge or approval of the pantry car manager or company management. According to the vendor, scrap collectors typically approach trains at various stations, and he was preparing to hand over these discarded items.

Express Food Services reiterated that no used or unsold food is served to passengers. The company stated, “All meals on board are freshly prepared at IRCTC-authorized base kitchens and meet all prescribed food safety and hygiene standards.” They have deemed the viral post as “false and misleading” and mentioned that corrective measures are being implemented to prevent similar unauthorized actions in the future.

  • Why it matters: Ensures that passengers are aware of food safety practices on trains, influencing their trust in rail catering services.
