Verizon launches Lite home internet for people in limited coverage areas

Verizon has announced the launch of a new “Lite” home internet plan aimed at customers in areas that previously lacked access to its fiber and 5G networks. The plan provides download speeds of up to 25 Mbps and is priced at $60 per month without discounts.

According to Verizon, this plan is designed for households with “light” internet usage that currently rely on older technologies such as DSL or satellite. Customers who have a postpaid mobile phone service with Verizon can receive discounts, saving $15 per month when combining the internet service with their mobile plan.

Additional savings are available, including a $10 monthly discount for opting for paperless billing and autopay. Moreover, if mobile customers sign up for the Lite plan before December 31st, they can receive an extra $10 discount for three years, reducing the monthly cost to as low as $25.

While the Lite plan may offer significant reductions in price for eligible customers, it is comparatively slow when evaluated against other budget internet plans. For instance, T-Mobile’s basic home internet option costs up to $55 per month and delivers download speeds of up to 415 Mbps.

Verizon’s plan includes a provision to throttle internet speeds by up to 10 Mbps after the first 150 GB of data used each month. In contrast, T-Mobile reduces speeds only for customers who exceed 1.2 TB of data in a billing cycle. Similarly, Mint Mobile’s new prepaid home internet offering provides speeds of up to 415 Mbps, imposing throttling after 1 TB of usage, with a cost of up to $50 per month.
