An incident of animal cruelty occurred in the Ajit Nagar area on Monday when a dog was intentionally run over by a car. The event was recorded by a CCTV camera and shared on social media.
Witnesses reported that the dog was sitting in the street when a car drove directly over it. After the dog cried out, the driver reversed the vehicle and hit the animal again, resulting in severe injuries. The dog was reported to have suffered a fractured spine and was taken to an animal hospital for treatment.
Local resident Ramesh Bangar noted that the footage suggests the act was intentional, as the dog was not aggressive and the driver had other options to avoid the animal. Rajinderpal Singh, a passerby, stopped to offer help after hearing the dog’s cries and learned about the incident from nearby residents. Following his investigation, he identified the driver, Rahul, who is reportedly a government schoolteacher.
The CCTV footage and the vehicle’s registration number (PB 10JF4124) have been submitted to the police, who have initiated a probe into the case. Local animal welfare activists and community members are urging authorities to take strict measures against the perpetrator.
- Why it matters: This incident raises awareness about animal welfare and the need for stricter laws regarding animal cruelty, which could impact community standards and legal actions.
- The latest: The police have begun an investigation following the filing of a complaint and the submission of evidence by local residents.
