The report may intensify growing international criticism of Israel, including from its historical allies, as some nations prepare to recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming UN General Assembly.
The report describes a range of accusations against Israel, including the imposition of “inhumane conditions” leading to the death of Palestinians through deprivation of food, water, and medical supplies, alongside forced displacements of civilians within Gaza. Three Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, have been named for incitement linked to genocidal rhetoric. Legal interpretations of genocide make prosecution difficult; however, South Africa has initiated a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, which could extend over several years.
