Sixty-three individuals have died following a series of vehicle collisions on a highway in Uganda, according to local police reports from Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 00:15 local time (21:15 GMT) on the Kampala-Gulu Highway, when two buses traveling in opposite directions collided while attempting to overtake two other vehicles. One bus reportedly swerved to evade a crash but ended up causing both a head-on and side collision, which triggered a chain reaction that resulted in additional vehicles losing control and overturning.
In addition to the fatalities, many passengers from the involved vehicles sustained injuries. An investigation into the accident has been initiated by police authorities. The Kampala-Gulu Highway is a significant route in Uganda, raising questions about road safety and driving practices in the region.
