Geoff Keighley recently confirmed that the Tomb Raider franchise will be featured during the Game Awards, revealing not one, but two new game announcements. Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios are set to release two Tomb Raider titles in 2026 and 2027. The first installment, titled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, is scheduled for 2026. This title is a remake of the original Tomb Raider game from 1996, built using Unreal Engine 5, and is reminiscent of the previous Tomb Raider Anniversary that updated the 1997 version for the PS2.
The second game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, is expected to arrive in 2027 and will introduce an entirely new adventure featuring a character that appears to be a reimagined version of Lara Croft. Originally, Lara Croft was conceived as Laura Cruz, a South American character, before being transformed into the British persona recognized today. In Catalyst, the new representation of Lara seems to acknowledge her roots as a woman of color. Details about both titles remain limited at this time.
The transition of the Tomb Raider series, including these two upcoming releases, indicates a continued evolution of the franchise in terms of gameplay and narrative. Further information regarding game mechanics and storylines is anticipated closer to the release dates.
