TiVo has officially ceased the production of its digital video recorders (DVRs) after 26 years in the business. The company has removed all DVR products from its website, a move first reported by Cord Cutters. TiVo confirmed that its last DVR model, the TiVo Edge, was released in 2019, and the company merged with software firm Xperi in June 2020.
According to a statement from TiVo, “As of September 30, 2025, TiVo will stop selling EDGE DVR products, including hardware and accessories, both online and through agents.” The company indicated that it and its partners no longer manufacture TiVo DVR hardware, with remaining inventory now depleted.
This decision follows a trend over the last several years where streaming services have made on-demand viewing more accessible, and cable TV providers have integrated cloud-based video recording into their offerings, reducing the demand for standalone DVRs. TiVo is expected to continue as a software provider for smart TVs and vehicle infotainment systems, despite no longer manufacturing hardware. The company has stated it will maintain support for its existing DVR products.
The changes at TiVo raise questions about the future of traditional DVR technology in an evolving media landscape.
