Tinder is trialing an AI-based feature called “Chemistry,” which analyzes users’ camera roll photos to understand their interests and personalities. According to Match Group’s latest earnings report, this feature aims to address “swipe fatigue” by providing fewer but more compatible matches for users.
The Chemistry feature operates only with the user’s consent to access their camera roll and includes interactive questions designed to help the app learn more about the user. Match Group identifies this as a key component of Tinder’s product experience planned for 2026. Currently, Chemistry is active in New Zealand and Australia, with intentions to launch in additional countries in the foreseeable future.
While the feature is opt-in, concerns have been raised about allowing AI to access personal photos on a device. This initiative, along with other AI-driven enhancements, is part of Match Group’s strategy to retain users amid a decline in paying subscribers over the past two years.
