The touchscreen MacBook rumors are never ending

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently reported on X that a MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen is anticipated to begin mass production by late 2026. This announcement aligns with earlier insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has been discussing the possibility of a touchscreen MacBook Pro since 2023. Gurman confirmed that Kuo’s timeline is accurate, although the expected launch date has shifted, moving from late 2025 to late 2026 or early 2027 since Gurman’s initial report.

Historically, Apple has been hesitant to fully integrate touchscreen technology into its MacBook lineup, maintaining a distinct separation between its iPad and MacBook products. However, Gurman noted that iPad sales are experiencing a decline, and there is a growing consumer expectation for touch-based interfaces on laptops. This trend is partly influenced by the prevalence of touchscreens in many Windows laptops. As a result, Apple may feel compelled to adapt its product offerings to better align with market expectations.
