Stars turn out for final fashion show in Milan

On September 28, 2025, fashion icons including Cate Blanchett, Glenn Close, and Richard Gere attended the Giorgio Armani Spring/Summer 2026 collection show in Milan. This event marked a poignant moment as it was the last collection the renowned designer worked on prior to his death earlier that month at the age of 91. Originally planned as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Armani’s fashion house, the show transformed into a tribute to his legacy.

Hosted at the Pinacoteca di Brera art gallery, where over 120 of Armani’s creations are displayed, the event featured models who had walked for the designer throughout his five-decade career. These models showcased a variety of styles, including classic suits and shimmering gowns, using earthy and oceanic colors to evoke their inspirations from Northern Italy and Pantelleria, the volcanic island where Armani had a holiday home.

The atmosphere was enhanced by the presence of paper lanterns reminiscent of those used during a public viewing of Armani’s body earlier in the month. The show concluded with the final piece, a long-sleeved, blue glittering gown adorned with an image of Armani’s face, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

Various celebrities paid homage to Armani during the event. Cate Blanchett noted the emotional significance of the moment, while others reflected on Armani’s influence and humanitarian efforts, emphasizing his deep connection with the fashion world. Following the show, attendees toured the exhibition “Giorgio Armani: Milano, Per Amore,” which featured iconic outfits, including Gere’s suit from the film “American Gigolo.”

The event featured live music from composer Ludovico Einaudi and drew notable figures from the industry, including outgoing Vogue editor Anna Wintour. In a related event, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci were spotted nearby, filming for the sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” as part of the Milan Fashion Week festivities.
