Sony has introduced the Xperia 10 VII, a midrange Android smartphone set to launch in the UK, Europe, and Asia, but notably not in the U.S. This model represents a significant shift in design for Sony, featuring a rear camera bar similar to recent Pixel and iPhone models, marking the first major change in over five years.
Traditionally, Xperia phones have maintained a vertical camera arrangement in one corner since the first-generation Xperia 5 in 2019, with few exceptions. The 10 VII features a horizontal camera setup within a pill-shaped raised bar covering a portion of the back. The device is available in black, white, or turquoise and presents a new look compared to previous Xperia models, resembling designs from Google’s Pixel or Apple’s iPhone Air.
From the front, the Xperia 10 VII retains familiar characteristics, including a prominent bezel above and below the display, making it less compact than some might expect from its 120Hz 6.1-inch screen. It moves away from the traditional 21:9 aspect ratio seen in earlier models, adopting a more conventional 19.5:9 format.
The phone includes several features characteristic of Sony devices, such as a 3.5mm headphone jack and expandable microSD storage. The larger bezel accommodates front-facing stereo speakers, and it has an IP65/68 rating for water and dust resistance. A side-mounted camera shutter button remains a notable feature.
On the performance side, the Xperia 10 VII is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset and dual rear cameras—a 50-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera. Sony claims the 5,000mAh battery can last up to two days, although charging is limited to wired options.
Priced at €449 or £399 (approximately $530), the Xperia 10 VII is available for preorder in the UK and Europe, with shipments scheduled to begin on September 19th.
