Sony’s updated PS5 Slim launches with less storage in Europe

Sony shrinks PS5 Slim storage in the US, too

Sony has launched a revised version of the digital PlayStation 5 (PS5) slim model in the United States. This new model features 825GB of internal SSD storage, which is a reduction from the original model’s 1TB. The updated version, which is part of the “CFI-2100 model group – slim,” is now available for purchase on the US PlayStation Direct website, following its earlier release in Europe.

Despite the decrease in storage capacity, the price for the revised digital edition remains at $499.99. YouTuber Austin Evans conducted a teardown of one of the updated PS5 slim consoles from Europe and noted not only the reduced storage but also changes in the design and internal components, including a matte finish on the black central part and top side panels.

Earlier in the year, Sony increased the prices of all PS5 models in the US by $50, attributing the hike to a “challenging economic environment.” This price adjustment comes as the gaming market continues to evolve, raising questions about consumer reception to the new model’s specifications and pricing.
