Samsung has recently updated its SmartThings platform to include support for Siri Shortcuts. This new feature allows users to utilize Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, to run SmartThings routines, thereby enabling control of smart home devices directly through voice commands.
Siri Shortcuts is an existing functionality in iOS that permits users to execute automations by instructing Siri. These automations can be created by users via the Shortcuts app or integrated by manufacturers within their respective applications.
With this update, controlling SmartThings devices through Apple devices, such as iPhones and HomePods, has been simplified. Users can trigger automated routines, like a “Good morning” sequence, which can include adjustments to lighting, coffee makers, and window treatments as part of their morning activities.
In addition to the Siri integration, Samsung is also enhancing its SmartThings app for Apple devices. For instance, Apple Watch users can now access a complete list of their connected devices and send commands or activate routines. Moreover, the SmartThings app for iOS has been updated to enable users to view and control up to five recently utilized devices directly from the lock screen using Live Activities.
This enhancement aims to improve the overall user experience for SmartThings users on Apple devices, aligning with the growing trend of voice-activated smart home management.
