Samsung’s Z TriFold is official and it looks like a tablet with a phone attached

Samsung has announced the Z TriFold, a foldable smartphone featuring two hinges, set to launch in Korea on December 12th, with a US release expected in the first quarter of 2026. While the price is not yet disclosed, previous models suggest it might be on the higher end of the spectrum, with a single-hinge phone previously costing around $2,000.

The TriFold’s inner screen has a diagonal measurement of 10 inches, with a resolution of 2160 x 1584 and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate that can drop to as low as 1Hz. This allows users to run three applications simultaneously in a vertical layout and utilize Samsung’s DeX desktop environment without the need for a separate display. The outer display measures 6.5 inches with a 1080p resolution and features a 21:9 aspect ratio.

The three panels of the TriFold vary in thickness, with the center panel at 4.2mm, featuring a USB-C port. The thinnest panel measures 3.9mm, which includes a physical SIM tray, while the other panel is 4.0mm thick. The design allows the two outer panels to fold inward over the center panel, contrasting with Huawei’s Mate XT, which adopts a Z-folding mechanism.

When folded, the Z TriFold is 12.9mm thick, making it thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Z Fold 7, but not significantly larger than the previous Z Fold 6. In terms of dimensions and weight, it is comparable to Huawei’s Mate XT, with the TriFold weighing 309 grams.

The back of the device is constructed from a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer for enhanced durability. Its hinges are designed with two different sizes, featuring a dual-rail design enclosed in titanium. The TriFold is rated IP48, indicating it is fully water-resistant but not dust-tight.

The phone is equipped with three rear cameras: a 200-megapixel wide angle, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto. Both the outer and inner screens come with a 10-megapixel selfie camera. Each panel includes a battery, contributing to a total capacity of 5,600mAh. The device runs on a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset and is equipped with 16GB of RAM.

Notably absent from the specifications is support for the S Pen, which was previously included in earlier models. Samsung has yet to provide additional details on the pricing of the Z TriFold in both Korea and the United States.
