Rode has a better way to connect your tiny wireless mics to your camera

In November 2023, Rode introduced its Wireless Micro microphone system, consisting of two compact lavalier mics and a small receiver that connects to a phone’s charging port. Following the launch, Rode offered a complimentary upgrade, sending an additional receiver to enable compatibility with digital cameras. Recently, Rode has released an updated version of this camera receiver, which now features an OLED screen, but this version will be sold rather than offered for free.

The updated receiver is part of a new Wireless Micro Camera Kit, which includes two Wireless Micro lavalier mics and an extra receiver designed to connect the mics to mobile devices through USB-C or Lightning ports. The kit is priced at $149, which corresponds to the initial price of the original Wireless Micro system, excluding the camera receiver. The price of the Wireless Micro system was later reduced to $99 with the introduction of new color options.

Although Rode’s wireless lavalier mics are more affordably priced compared to competitors like DJI’s Mic Mini and Mic 3, they do not offer the same level of functionality. The new receiver can be attached to cameras via a cold shoe mount and transmits audio from up to two wireless microphones through either USB-C or a 3.5mm audio cable. It boasts an estimated battery life of up to seven hours, which can be extended to 21 hours when used with the Wireless Micro Camera Kit’s charging case.

Additional features of the receiver include a 1.1-inch OLED screen that displays battery life and signal strength, alongside three buttons for navigating settings. The device can also adjust settings automatically to manage volume spikes, ensuring balanced audio input to the camera.
