Roblox shutting down on September 1? Debunking viral ‘statement’

Recent rumors circulated on social media, claiming that Roblox would permanently shut down on September 1. These claims originated from a post on X (formerly Twitter), which resembled an official statement but was fabricated by a verified parody account known as @RobloxNoobifier.

The fake announcement suggested that the platform was closing due to safety concerns and alleged public demand. However, Roblox Corporation has not issued any official statement confirming such a shutdown, and the platform continues to operate normally.

This misleading information emerged at a time when Roblox is facing multiple lawsuits alleging it does not adequately protect minors, including a significant suit filed by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill. The lawsuit criticizes the platform for prioritizing profit over child safety, stating that Roblox is “overrun with harmful content and child predators.” As of August 22, no evidence has surfaced to support the claims of a September 1 shutdown.
