At the recent Connect keynote, Meta unveiled the Meta Ray-Ban Display, also referred to as Hypernova, which is priced at $799.99. These advanced smart glasses feature an in-lens display, controllable via wrist-based gestures using the new Meta Neural Band. This display can be paired with a smartphone, allowing users to view content such as text messages, Instagram Reels, and maps without needing to take out their devices. The glasses are scheduled to be released on September 30th, coinciding with in-store demonstrations available at various retailers, including Best Buy and Ray-Ban stores.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display is offered in two sizes—standard and large—and two color options: black and sand. The glasses are equipped with transition lenses, which automatically darken in sunlight and become clear indoors. The display, located in the right lens, features full-color resolution of 600 by 600 pixels with a 20-degree field of view. Some users may find the monocular design somewhat distracting, although it does not fully obstruct vision.
In terms of design, the frames are thicker than previous models and display a more squared shape with rounded edges. They are equipped with overextension hinges to enhance comfort for those with wider faces. The expected battery life is around six hours with mixed use, which may require further verification upon review.
Additionally, Meta announced the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, which is available for order starting at $379. This upgraded version is claimed to provide up to eight hours of battery life and features a charging case that can recharge the glasses to 50% in 20 minutes. The camera on these glasses can record 3K video.
Lastly, preorders are open for the Oakley Meta Vanguard at $499, set to launch on October 21st. The Vanguard includes a 12-megapixel camera and offers up to nine hours of battery life, along with an IP67 rating and Garmin integration.
