TeamGroup has introduced a new portable SSD drive named the T-Create Expert P35S, designed for users concerned about data security. Unlike traditional drives that use encryption, the P35S features a unique mechanism for immediate data deletion. It incorporates a patented one-click data destruction circuit that employs “chip destruction” methods to ensure a complete and irreversible data wipe.
The company has not released specific pricing or availability details for the P35S, which will come in four storage capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The design includes an external button to initiate the self-destruction process, which raises questions about the potential for accidental activation, though safeguards are in place to prevent unintentional data loss during normal use.
The P35S operates via a USB-C connection to a computer. The self-destruct button functions as a two-stage sliding switch; the first stage requires some force and reveals a red warning sign, while the second stage, which initiates data destruction, necessitates even more force to activate.
Once initiated, the self-destruction process continues until the drive is rendered inoperable, even without a connection to a computer. TeamGroup states that this method leaves “zero data residue,” thereby preventing any form of recovery. The company clarifies that the P35S is not intended for general consumers or everyday storage but is instead aimed at those managing sensitive or classified information.
Additionally, the P35S includes a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, offering read and write speeds of up to 1,000MB/s. Its compact design measures just over 3.5 inches in length and weighs 42 grams.
