Pope Leo XIV encountered difficulties while attempting to unveil a plaque during his visit to a church in Istanbul on Friday. The event took place at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, where the Pope struggled to pull away the cloth covering a marble tablet that commemorates his trip to Turkey.
During the unveiling, church clergy and security personnel also attempted to assist the Pope, but the white sheet remained partially attached at a corner, complicating the effort. The Pope’s visit to Turkey commenced on Thursday, and he is scheduled to travel to Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on Sunday.
This trip is part of the Pope’s broader efforts to engage with various religious communities and promote dialogue.
