Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak recently met a young fan after a video surfaced online showing a man taking a cap from the boy during the US Open. The video, which went viral on social media, depicted Majchrzak interacting with fans before he offered the cap he was wearing to a child. In the footage, the man, identified by media outlets as Piotr Szczerek, a Polish CEO, is seen grabbing the cap before the boy could retrieve it, leading to the child pleading for its return.
In response to the incident, Majchrzak posted two clips on his Instagram account, where he shook hands with two boys and presented them with gifts, including a cap similar to the one taken from the child. His post noted, “Today after warm up, I had a nice meeting,” while also referencing the cap.
Majchrzak also shared a photo smiling alongside the boy now wearing the cap, captioning it, “Hello World, together with Brock we wish you a great day!” Following the viral video’s release, many social media users criticized Szczerek’s actions.
BBC News has attempted to reach Szczerek for a comment through his company. At the time of the match that garnered attention, Majchrzak was ranked 76th in the world in men’s singles. He achieved victory against Russian player Karen Khachanov, who is ranked ninth, but later withdrew from a subsequent match due to a torn intercostal muscle.
