Pixel phones can now stream music for you and a friend at the same time

Pixel phones will now support streaming audio to multiple headphones simultaneously, utilizing the expanded Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast capabilities. Users with Pixel 8 or newer models can pair two headphones at once. This feature allows individuals to share audio experiences, such as listening to music or watching shows with friends during commutes or travels.

The new functionality includes the option to create private broadcasts that can be shared with multiple headphones via QR codes or Fast Pair. This may enhance social listening experiences, allowing groups to share specific audio content effortlessly.

For this audio-sharing feature to work, participating headphones must also support LE Audio. Google is increasing compatibility with various Sony headphone models, including the LinkBuds S, WF-1000XM5, and WH-1000XM6, among others. There is also support for hearing aids and certain devices from Samsung and Xiaomi.

Additionally, Google is updating the Pixel Buds Pro 2 with a feature called Adaptive Audio. This enhancement allows users to experience active noise cancellation while still being aware of their environment. It is designed to filter out background noise, such as traffic, but enables the user to hear important sounds, like honking cars, to maintain safety. The update will also include Loud Noise Protection to safeguard users’ hearing from sudden loud sounds, such as emergency vehicle sirens.
