Peruvian woman arrested in Bali for smuggling drugs in sex toy

A woman from Peru, identified only by the initials N.S., has been arrested in Bali after allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs valued at approximately $70,000 (£52,000) into the country. Customs officials reportedly became suspicious of her behavior during an inspection at Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Investigators revealed that the narcotics included 1.4 kilograms (3.1 pounds) of cocaine and 43 ecstasy pills, concealed in a variety of ways. According to Radiant, the director of Bali’s narcotics unit, the drugs were found wrapped in plastic and duct tape inside a green bra, within black underwear, and embedded in a sex toy inserted into her body.

The 42-year-old woman has been charged under Indonesia’s strict anti-drug laws, facing potentially severe penalties, including the death penalty if convicted. Authorities noted that she claimed to have been paid $19,000 to transport the drugs, a job she reportedly accepted from an individual she met on the dark web in April.

N.S. arrived in Bali on August 12, flying from Barcelona, Spain, with a stopover in Doha. She was arrested shortly after customs officials alerted local police following their initial search.

Indonesia has a reputation for imposing heavy sentences on drug offenses, having previously executed individuals for drug trafficking. However, the country has observed a temporary suspension of death sentences since 2017. In a related development last month, three British nationals were spared the death penalty after being convicted of smuggling cocaine disguised as packets of Angel Delight.
