The Telangana government repatriated Mohammad Safiullah to TGGenco on administrative grounds on Tuesday. Recently appointed as Director of the Urdu Academy and In-charge Executive Officer of the Telangana Haj Committee, Safiullah’s reassignment follows the emergence of a viral video in which he made remarks deemed insensitive to the relatives of victims of a Haj tragedy that resulted in 45 fatalities. In the video, he was heard saying, “Jale huwe tukdon ko kya dekhte? ” (Why do you need to go and see the charred remains and pieces). Although Safiullah later issued an apology, the government’s decision appeared to address the public backlash. Mohammad Asadullah, currently the Survey Commissioner of Waqf, has been appointed as the new in-charge Executive Officer of the Telangana Haj Committee and Director of the Telangana Urdu Academy to manage their daily operations.
