A significant explosion occurred at a munitions factory in Bucksnort, Tennessee, on Friday, resulting in 18 individuals being unaccounted for. Recovery teams currently do not anticipate finding any survivors, although they remain hopeful, according to Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis during a news conference.
The cause of the explosion, which took place at a facility dedicated to the development, manufacture, handling, and storage of explosives, is still unknown. The plant is located approximately 56 miles (90 kilometers) southwest of Nashville.
Video footage from the incident showed ongoing fires, burned vehicles, and a plume of smoke rising from the destroyed structure. Witnesses reported debris scattered over a half-mile radius from the site of the explosion. In response to the incident, Accurate Energetic Systems, the company operating the factory, has temporarily halted its operations.
This incident is not the first of its kind at the location; a previous explosion occurred in 2014, resulting in fatalities.
