Nintendo has updated its sales forecast for the Switch 2, anticipating a 25 percent increase in sales. The company now projects that it will sell 19 million units by March 2026, a notable rise from the earlier estimate of 15 million. This adjustment comes in light of the console’s strong performance since its launch in June, during which 10.36 million Switch 2 units have been sold, including 4.54 million sold in the most recent earnings period from April to September.
In addition to hardware sales, 20.62 million games for the Switch 2 have been sold since its release. Despite this success, Nintendo has only slightly increased its game sales forecast from 45 million to 48 million. Overall, the rise in both hardware and software sales has contributed to a significant revenue boost of 110 percent, with revenue reaching ¥1,099.5 billion (about $7.1 billion) for the six months ending in September, compared to ¥523.2 billion (approximately $3.4 billion) for the same period last year. Nintendo has also revised its end-of-year sales forecast to ¥2,250 billion (around $14.6 billion), considering U.S. tariff measures in its projections.
While the Switch 2 is reported to be the fastest-selling game console ever, the original Switch console continues to sell well. It has now achieved 154.01 million lifetime sales, approaching the 154.02 million sales of the Nintendo DS, which remains the company’s best-selling console. To surpass the DS and eventually the PlayStation 2’s all-time record of 160 million sales, the original Switch must continue to perform strongly.
In contrast, the Wii U had a lifetime sales total of just 13.7 million units, a number the Switch 2 is expected to exceed within its first year.
