Ndimande brothers charged with South African rapper’s death after Eswatini extradition

Two brothers, Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, have been charged with the murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, known as “AKA,” after their extradition from Eswatini. This extradition followed a failed legal attempt to prevent their return to South Africa.

Forbes, an award-winning artist, was killed in 2023 outside a restaurant in Durban, alongside his friend, celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. The incident drew significant attention due to the high murder rate in South Africa and the prominence of the victims. The Ndimande brothers are also charged with the murder of Motsoane and will appear in court alongside five other individuals who are already in custody. Other charges against them include attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

At the time of his death, Forbes was in Durban to celebrate his birthday and perform. Law enforcement described the attack as a coordinated hit, raising questions about the motive and planning behind the incident.

Forbes was considered one of South Africa’s most notable hip-hop artists, having released three solo albums and collaborated with various other performers, such as Nigeria’s Burna Boy. The trial proceedings are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding his death.
