Moment newly opened bridge partially collapses in China

A bridge in China’s southwestern province of Sichuan has experienced a partial collapse shortly after its recent completion. The Hongqi Bridge, measuring 758 meters (2,486 feet) in length, was closed by authorities on Monday due to the emergence of cracks on adjacent slopes and roads.

On Tuesday afternoon, deteriorating conditions on the mountainside caused landslides, subsequently resulting in the bridge’s partial failure. Despite the structural damage, officials have reported that there were no casualties resulting from the incident.

The bridge was completed earlier this year by the Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, as noted in a social media post by the contractors. This event raises questions about the stability and safety of newly constructed infrastructure in the region.
