A medieval tower in central Rome experienced a partial collapse on Monday, trapping one individual and leaving another in critical condition. The incident occurred at Torre dei Conti, situated on the edge of the renowned Roman Forum and near the Colosseum, shortly after 11:30 AM local time (10:30 GMT).
During ongoing rescue operations, another section of the 29-meter (90-foot) high tower began to crumble, resulting in a significant cloud of dust. Firefighters on site were not injured and successfully implemented protective measures around the trapped man before the second section fell.
This collapse raises questions about the structural integrity of historical buildings in urban settings and the safety measures in place to protect both residents and visitors.
