Mirumi the furry companion robot is now available on Kickstarter

Yukai Engineering introduced a unique robot named Mirumi at CES 2025, amidst a variety of new technology products. This small robot is designed to offer companionship rather than serve a specific practical function. The company is set to release Mirumi for preorder through a Kickstarter campaign, with the launch occurring in mid-2025.

Initially estimated to cost around $70, the price has increased due to global economic changes. Early supporters can preorder Mirumi in gray, pink, or ivory for approximately 18,360 yen, equating to about $118 with discounts. As the campaign progresses, the price will rise to around 21,803 yen, or approximately $140, which still reflects a reduction from the expected retail price of $150.

Shipping for Mirumi is expected to start in April 2026 at the earliest, but delays are possible, a common occurrence with crowdfunded products. Unlike traditional robots that perform specific tasks such as cleaning or landscaping, Mirumi is marketed as a companion robot. It features long arms that allow it to attach to bag straps or handles, giving it a curious appearance as it moves its head side to side.

Mirumi is equipped with a distance sensor enabling it to detect people nearby, directing its gaze towards them. Additionally, it mimics a shy response by turning its head away and shaking when someone unexpectedly approaches or interacts with it. While the robot has limited functionalities, its primary role as a companion may contribute to its appeal by offering interaction and engagement in a simple, relaxed manner.
