Microsoft says it’s recovering after Azure outage took down 365, Xbox, and Starbucks

Microsoft Azure, the cloud computing service provided by Microsoft, recently faced an outage shortly after Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced its own disruptions affecting various online services. The Azure outage impacted several Microsoft services, such as Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft, along with businesses including Capital One, Alaska Airlines, and Starbucks.

At approximately 7 PM ET, Microsoft reported improvements in affected regions and anticipated full mitigation by 23:20 UTC on October 29, 2025. Xbox Support stated that gaming services had largely recovered, yet some users needed to restart their consoles to reconnect.

Earlier, at 12:25 PM ET, Microsoft 365’s status account acknowledged issues with accessing Microsoft 365 services and the admin center. An update one hour later revealed connectivity issues within parts of its infrastructure and outlined efforts to reroute traffic to restore functionality. Meanwhile, Xbox’s status page experienced accessibility problems, which were later resolved.

Additionally, the outage influenced other sectors. Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines reported disruptions to their key systems, including their websites, advising customers who could not check in online to seek assistance from airport agents.

Community Fibre, an internet provider in the UK, noted that some of its customers might have been affected due to the Azure outage. Similarly, Kroger informed customers of unexpected outages on its website and mobile applications, while issues were also reported with the services of Starbucks, Costco, and Capital One.

As of October 29, further details regarding the recovery process were added to updates, indicating ongoing efforts to address the situation.
