Logitech is launching its MX Master 4 wireless mouse, priced at $119.99, in October. Notably, this updated model introduces a Haptic Sense Panel in its thumb rest, which vibrates when pressed. This feature opens the Action Ring overlay, allowing users to customize app and system-level shortcuts, including creating nested shortcuts.
The haptic feedback plays a role in various features, enhancing user interaction through gestures and Smart Actions, which include pre-made or custom macros for task automation. Haptics can also provide feedback when switching between screens, a feature that needs to be enabled in the settings.
In terms of hardware, the MX Master 4 features frosted, semi-transparent buttons and includes a USB-C Bolt transmitter for connectivity with other Logitech devices. Logitech claims the mouse can last up to 70 days on a full charge, although using high haptic intensity may reduce battery life.
Additionally, the design has shifted the gesture button to a dedicated location near the thumb buttons, contrasting with its position in the previous MX Master 3S model. The Action Ring, while not a new concept, now incorporates haptic feedback which enhances its usability by providing a tactile response during navigation.
The MX Master 4 retains a price point comparable to its predecessor, suggesting it may be appealing for those new to the MX Master series. Current users of the MX Master 3S may find less incentive to upgrade, as many core features remain similar.
