Award-winning rapper Lil Nas X has been arrested in Los Angeles following an incident involving the police. Authorities reported that the police received calls around 5:30 AM local time regarding a man walking in his underwear on Ventura Boulevard. Upon arrival, police allege that the artist, known for the hit “Old Town Road,” charged at the officers and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of battery.
After his arrest, Lil Nas X was transported to a hospital for treatment related to a potential overdose, according to police spokesperson Charles Miller. Representatives for the artist have been approached for comment regarding the incident.
Unverified footage, reportedly published by TMZ, shows Lil Nas X dancing in the street in minimal clothing and cowboy boots while inviting passersby to join in a “party.”
The 24-year-old artist, born Montero Lamar Hill, is set to release his highly anticipated second studio album titled “Dreamboy” later this year, and he has been teasing new music on Instagram in the lead-up to the release.
Lil Nas X gained widespread recognition after becoming the first openly gay man to receive a Country Music Association award for his song “Old Town Road” in 2019. This song also earned two Grammy awards and set a record for the longest run at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, staying at the top for 17 weeks.
Throughout his career, Lil Nas X has faced various controversies, particularly regarding the music video for his single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” which drew criticism from some conservative groups in the U.S. In response, he created a parody apology video on YouTube that featured scenes from the music video.
