Larian’s CEO says the studio isn’t ‘trimming down teams to replace them with AI’

The company has been expanding its team of concept artists, writers, and storytellers, and is actively forming writer rooms, casting actors, and recording performances. Currently, there are 23 concept artists employed, with additional job openings available. These artists are engaged in generating concept art for ideation and production purposes.

The organization’s efforts are designed to be incremental, with a focus on maximizing creativity and allowing team members to devote more time to their creative processes. The company emphasizes that any machine learning (ML) tools utilized are intended to augment the workflow of creative teams and individuals rather than to replace their skills or craftsmanship.

Research is ongoing to explore the potential of machine learning as a resource for creatives, with the aim of easing their daily tasks to ultimately enhance the quality of games produced. Importantly, the company states it is not planning to release any games that incorporate AI components nor is there an intention to reduce team sizes in favor of AI replacements.

While the topic of AI in creative fields generates strong emotions, the company asserts that internal discussions prioritize improving the work environment and enhancing productivity for team members.
