In Poland, military jets were deployed in response to the ongoing situation in western Ukraine, as confirmed by the Polish armed forces. This response has become increasingly common, particularly after three Russian drones were downed within Polish airspace on September 10. The Polish military characterized these defensive maneuvers as precautionary.
Moscow has denied allegations that it was responsible for drone incidents reported by Denmark, which suggested that the drones were operated by a “professional actor.” Estonia has also voiced accusations against Russia for airspace violations. In light of these incursions, NATO has initiated measures to strengthen its eastern presence.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has made statements suggesting that NATO countries might need to shoot down Russian aircraft in their airspace. He has also recently indicated an evolving perspective on the conflict, asserting that Ukraine could potentially regain all territory lost to Russia. Meanwhile, during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed that Russia does not intend to attack EU or NATO member states but cautioned against any acts of aggression toward Moscow.
