Keychron made the first almost entirely ceramic keyboard

Keychron, a mechanical keyboard manufacturer based in China, has announced the release of its new product, the Q16 HE 8K. The company claims that this keyboard is the first full-ceramic build available on the market. The Q16 HE 8K integrates custom analog magnetic switches with kiln-fired ceramic materials, aiming to provide a tactile and auditory experience that differs from traditional metal or plastic keyboards.

The Q16 HE 8K will be launched through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, which is a common approach for niche keyboard products. Early backers can purchase the keyboard starting at $229.99. The device features a 65 percent layout and is offered in two color options: blue and minty white. Delivery for backers is projected for November 2025.

Unlike existing companies like Cerakey that offer ceramic keycaps, Keychron’s Q16 HE 8K features a complete ceramic body along with ceramic keycaps. The ceramic is described as durable and scratch-resistant, although it may not be the best choice for users seeking portable solutions. While the material’s durability may not ensure drop resistance, it could attract keyboard enthusiasts looking for a distinctive product.

Technical specifications for the Q16 HE 8K include an 8,000Hz polling rate and adjustable actuation sensitivity up to 0.01mm, allowing for personalized user control. The keyboard also includes Keychron’s custom Ultra-Fast Lime switches, built with Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) technology. This technology, a type of Hall effect switch, enhances accuracy and energy efficiency, purportedly allowing for improved input precision compared to traditional Hall effect switches.

Keychron’s operations head, Paul Tan, emphasized the importance of speed and aesthetic appeal in keyboard design, stating that the Q16 HE 8K was developed to merge ceramic materials with advanced technology for an enhanced user experience.
