Investigation into ‘horrifying’ death of French streamer

An investigation has been initiated regarding the death of French streamer Raphaël Graven, known online as Jeanpormanove. He was discovered deceased at a residence in Contes, a village situated north of Nice. Reports indicate that the 46-year-old experienced episodes of violence and sleep deprivation during his streaming sessions and died while live broadcasting.

The French government confirmed that a judicial investigation is in progress. Clara Chappaz, the minister responsible for artificial intelligence and digital technologies, remarked that Graven endured significant hardships and had been subjected to humiliation over several months.

Kick, the live-streaming platform where Graven broadcasted his content, stated it was actively reviewing the events surrounding his death. The company expressed condolences to his family, friends, and community, highlighting its commitment to community guidelines aimed at protecting content creators.

In response to the incident, Chappaz has involved Arcom, the French media regulator, as well as Pharos, a reporting system for online content. Sarah El Haïry, France’s High Commissioner for Children, emphasized the critical responsibility platforms have in regulating online content to protect vulnerable audiences, particularly children.

The prosecutor’s office has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Graven’s death, including an autopsy. Jeanpormanove enjoyed a significant social media presence, boasting over one million followers across various platforms and cultivating a solid community on Kick.

Tributes have emerged from fellow creators, with one co-creator paying homage to Graven and urging respect for his memory, specifically requesting that graphic representations of his death not be circulated online. Fellow streamer Owen Cenazandotti also implored fans to avoid sharing distressing footage from his colleague’s final moments.
