Instagram tests opening right onto Reels

Instagram wants to limit hashtag spam

Instagram is implementing a new policy regarding the use of hashtags on its platform. According to a statement from Instagram chief Adam Mosseri, users will now be limited to five hashtags per post. This change aims to address the frequent occurrence of posts filled with numerous hashtags, which some users may find excessive.

In a discussion on his “Instagram advice” channel, Mosseri emphasized that while using multiple hashtags may be tempting, research indicates that a select number of specific tags tend to yield better performance than an extensive list of generic hashtags. He highlighted that it is more effective to prioritize quality over quantity when it comes to hashtag usage.

Mosseri acknowledged that hashtags can assist with content discovery in search functions but clarified that they do not inherently increase user reach. Instead, he recommended that users concentrate on understanding what type of content resonates with their audience.

This shift reflects ongoing discussions in social media about optimizing engagement and improving user experience, especially concerning how content is categorized and discovered.
