Hyundai has unveiled a new concept vehicle known as the Concept Three, which may indicate plans for a smaller electric vehicle (EV) positioned beneath the Ioniq 5 in its lineup. The design of the Concept Three features bold elements, and its dimensions—measuring 168.8 inches in length, 76.4 inches in width, and 56.2 inches in height—suggest it could compete with compact models like the Kia Soul and Volkswagen Golf. These specifications might change before the vehicle enters production, but they reinforce Hyundai’s interest in expanding its Ioniq family, which currently includes the Ioniq 5 crossover, Ioniq 6 sedan, and Ioniq 9 full-size SUV.
The interior of the Concept Three is distinctively designed, featuring bright yellow and purple accents and unconventional choices, such as a seatbelt integrated into the headrest. The vehicle includes unique design elements inspired by science fiction, with side-view cameras that resemble notable figures from the genre and an inscription on the rear bumper reading “May the downforce be with you.” However, Hyundai has not officially linked these features to any specific cultural references to avoid potential licensing issues.
Hyundai has stated that the Concept Three signals its intent to enter the European compact EV market, which is generally more receptive to smaller hatchbacks. This focus raises questions about whether a production model will be available in other regions, including the United States, as market dynamics vary. As Hyundai continues to explore innovative designs, it remains to be seen how these concepts will evolve and whether they will make their way into production.
