Hostage Tamir Nimrodi’s mother says his fate unknown as she waits for Trump’s peace plan

Herut Nimrodi, the mother of an Israeli man kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023, continues to grapple with uncertainty regarding her son, Tamir’s fate, expressing hope that he is still alive. Tamir, then an 18-year-old non-combat soldier, is reportedly the only Israeli hostage whose family has not received information about his status. His abduction occurred during the deadliest day in Israel’s history, when approximately 1,200 people were killed and around 251 others taken hostage.

In light of ongoing indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel, Nimrodi has expressed cautious optimism regarding a peace plan proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. She has noted an increasing sense of urgency among families of the kidnapped, emphasizing the need for all hostages, regardless of their status, to be accounted for in the initial terms of any agreement. Nimrodi believes that confirming the fates of those lost would allow families some sense of closure.

The last contact Nimrodi had with her son was a text message on the morning of his abduction, where he described a barrage of rockets and indicated that he would return home soon. The message was sent just 20 minutes before he was forcibly taken away. Since then, she has had no indications of his well-being.

Nimrodi has actively campaigned for her son’s release, participating in rallies with other families of hostages. She described the emotional toll of the ordeal, stating that her life feels suspended as day-to-day existence feels like one unending struggle. Recently, she joined thousands in Tel Aviv advocating for the implementation of the peace deal, wearing a shirt featuring her son’s photo. Her hope is intertwined with a plea for action from Israeli leadership to secure the return of all hostages and bring about peace in the region.
