Hori’s new Switch 2 controller lets you turn off its screenshot button

Hori has introduced a new gaming controller known as the Wireless Horipad Turbo, positioned as a more affordable alternative to Nintendo’s $90 Switch 2 Pro Controller. Priced at approximately $54 (7,980 yen), it lacks some premium features, such as Amiibo support and the ability to remotely wake the Switch 2. However, it includes a lock button on the back to prevent accidental presses of the Home and Screenshot shortcuts during gameplay.

The Wireless Horipad Turbo is currently available for preorder in Japan on Hori’s online store and Amazon Japan, with an expected launch before the end of the year. While it is confirmed to be compatible with all versions of the Switch, there is no information regarding a potential US release or pricing details for that market.

Design-wise, the Horipad Turbo resembles Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller, featuring a translucent housing and a game chat button. Hori has opted for tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) joysticks instead of Hall effect or capacitive options, which may appeal to some users. However, it does not include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature that some users may miss.

The controller also contains an extra set of buttons on the back, allowing users to remap the action, shoulder, trigger buttons, and the D-pad and joysticks. Users can program a single button to replicate the functionality of two others at the same time and use a special button on the front of the gamepad for rapid-fire features.

The lock button on the back can be toggled to disable various buttons, including the Hori, Home, and Screenshot buttons, as well as the plus and minus buttons, preventing unintentional menu access during gameplay.
