Honor has unveiled the design of its upcoming flagship device, the Magic 8 Pro, through exclusive images shared with The Verge. The phone is expected to include a dedicated AI button and will debut in China next month, being one of the first devices equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which Qualcomm announced recently.
The Magic series represents Honor’s flagship offerings, typically launching first in China before expanding to Europe, where prices generally exceed €1,000 (approximately $1,200). The Magic 8 Pro is likely to maintain this pattern, featuring advanced technologies including robust processors, large batteries, and high-performance cameras.
In terms of design, the Magic 8 Pro largely resembles its predecessor, the Magic 7 Pro. It features a flat back in contrast to the slightly curved design of the earlier model. A notable difference is the addition of an extra button located on the side, functioning as a dedicated AI button, although its specific functionalities remain unclear at this time. Honor is also introducing a new AI feature termed Magic Color, which allows users to modify images and videos using color palettes from other selected images.
The rear camera area includes a round camera island that appears to support three lenses and a ToF (time of flight) sensor for depth detection. Further details regarding the camera specifications are limited, but promotional material from Honor reveals a 200-megapixel camera capable of telephoto imaging, indicating an upgrade from the previous model’s capabilities.
Alongside the Magic 8 Pro, the new lineup is expected to include additional variants, including the MagicPad 3 Pro. These products will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Honor’s launch event is scheduled for October 15th in China, with European availability anticipated in early 2024. The company is also rumored to be developing further models within the Magic 8 series, including potential Ultra and Mini variants, targeting a 2026 release.
