Apple has introduced updated models of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, both featuring the new M5 processor. The M5 chip is positioned as an improvement over the previous M4, boasting enhanced performance for demanding graphics tasks and improved capabilities for artificial intelligence due to its 10-core GPU with a neural accelerator in each core.
The macOS devices are priced as follows: the 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,599, while the iPad Pro models begin at $999 for the 11-inch version and $1,299 for the 13-inch version. These devices will be available for preorder immediately and are set to launch on October 22.
While much of the design for the MacBook Pro remains unchanged from last year’s model, it now offers increased memory bandwidth—from 120Gbps to 153Gbps. The M5 processor delivers a 20% increase in multithreaded performance and is reported to be 1.6 times faster in graphics performance. The integrated neural accelerators reportedly enhance AI task performance by a factor of 3.5.
Preorders for the MacBook Pro can be placed through Amazon and Apple, with various configurations available. The 16GB RAM and 512GB storage model is priced at $1,599, and options with larger storage and RAM can reach up to $1,999.
For the iPad Pro, RAM has been upgraded in the 256GB and 512GB models from 8GB to 12GB, while higher storage tiers maintain 16GB. The new models support faster charging and continue to feature high-quality displays and camera systems. The pricing for the iPad Pro starts at $999 for the 11-inch 256GB model, increasing with storage options and including an additional charge for cellular functionality.
In addition, the devices will have the option for a glare-resistant Nano-texture display for an extra fee.
