Health Advisor: No cause for concern as respiratory virus levels remain within normal range

CAIRO – 8 December 2025: Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, the Advisor to the President for Health and Prevention Affairs, has stated that respiratory virus infection rates in Egypt are currently within the expected seasonal norms. He noted that 65 percent of confirmed cases are attributed to seasonal influenza (Type A), which is currently the most prevalent and severe respiratory virus.

In a phone interview on the “Studio Extra” program on Extra News, Dr. Tag El-Din indicated that the epidemiological situation is stable and poses no immediate concern. Other respiratory viruses, including influenza B, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and coronavirus, have been detected but at lower levels.

Dr. Tag El-Din emphasized the importance of the seasonal influenza vaccine for high-risk groups, including children, the elderly, those with chronic health conditions, and healthcare workers. He pointed out that the vaccine is updated annually to adapt to viral changes and is vital for reducing the severity of infections and associated complications.

He also noted that vaccination should be complemented by adherence to preventive measures, which serve as the primary method of reducing infection spread and protecting community health.

  • Why it matters:
  • Understanding the current respiratory virus landscape helps individuals and businesses plan for health measures, especially during peak seasons.
  • Encouraging vaccination in high-risk groups can lead to decreased healthcare costs related to severe illness.
  • The latest:
  • Influenza vaccine availability is expected to remain steady in line with seasonal outbreak patterns.
