HBO Max’s new channels keep  Friends and Game of Thrones playing 24/7

HBO Max is introducing a new feature called curated channels, allowing users to access a continuous stream of popular series or specific genres. When a user selects a channel, the service will start playback from the beginning of the content, with options to rewind, fast-forward, or skip to the next episode.

At launch, HBO Max will offer 12 themed channels. These channels will include themes such as adult animation, true crime, and holiday specials. Additionally, there will be channels dedicated to specific franchises, including the DC Universe, The Big Bang Theory, Friends, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Rick and Morty, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, and Game of Thrones.

The concept of curated channels was initially suggested by HBO Max last year when they launched always-on channels that replicate content available on linear HBO channels. The new curated channels will be accessible to all users with adult profiles via the “channels” section on the homepage.

As video streaming services continue to evolve, it raises the question of how features like curated channels will impact user engagement and viewing habits on platforms like HBO Max.
