On Monday, Google announced three significant updates to its Gemini-powered products. The Gemini app has introduced the ability to accept audio files, Google Search can now support five additional languages, and NotebookLM is set to offer new report formats.
According to Josh Woodward, vice president of Google Labs and Gemini, the addition of audio file compatibility was the most requested feature for the Gemini app. Free Gemini users can upload audio files with a maximum length of 10 minutes and are limited to five free prompts each day. In contrast, AI Pro or AI Ultra users can upload audio files of up to three hours. The app can handle up to 10 files in various formats, including ZIP files.
The expansion of Google Search’s AI Mode includes support for Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese, facilitated by the integration of Gemini 2.5. This enhancement aims to allow users to ask complex questions in their preferred languages and engage more deeply with online content.
NotebookLM, another Gemini-powered software, is also undergoing updates, which include new report styles in over 80 languages based on user-uploaded materials. This version is designed to generate various report formats, such as study guides, briefing documents, and blog posts, while also supporting flashcards and quizzes. Users have the capability to customize their reports by adjusting the structure, tone, and style. The updates for NotebookLM are expected to be fully available by the end of the week.
These updates highlight Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance the functionality of its AI products.
