Google made it easier to edit your Drive videos

Google has introduced a new Drive shortcut for Workspace users, aimed at streamlining the video editing process. This feature allows users to edit videos more efficiently without the need to manually open them in Google Vids. When users preview a video in Drive, an “Open” button will appear in the top right corner. Clicking this button will redirect them to Google Vids, where they can perform basic editing tasks such as trimming clips, adding text, and incorporating music.

The Vids shortcut is set to be enabled by default for users, but Workspace organization administrators have the option to disable it if desired. The rollout began on August 21st and may take up to two weeks to reach all users. This update is part of a broader set of improvements that Google has implemented for video functionalities in Drive. Notably, a new video player was introduced in October of the previous year, and a Gemini AI feature that summarizes Drive videos was added in May.

As Google continues to enhance its Drive offerings for multimedia content, questions remain regarding how these features will impact user engagement and productivity in video editing tasks.
